The Shop

The Barbearia Tinoco is already in the 1930’s calendar, appearing as property of Manuel Fernandes Tinoco, in the current location. The decoration of this barber shop is part of the heritage of the city of Porto. We highlight the marble sinks, the floor covered with fan mosaics, the iron chairs and the huge mirrors, in a set with strong Art Déco inspiration. One can not fail to mention the old steam-heated towel heater, which was then placed on the customers’ faces, as well as the small marble counter tops that are in front of each chair and which also served to land trays with the snack served from a neighborhood café. It is a space much photographed by the various tourists that pass by.

Shop History

This magnificent project was designed by the architects Manuel Marques and José Peneda, and the barber shop was inaugurated in 1929, although it was registered only the following year. In the cloakroom, a callista worked, with his waiting room. The calista’s office gave great privacy to the most wealthy clients who wanted to keep their identity unknown. It was one of the first barber shops in the city of Porto to employ women barbers.
This establishment has passed through several owners, being the concern of the current owner to approach the interior decoration of the original while not neglecting to modernize the services.
