The Shop

The Hotel do Norte offers accommodation in the centre of the city, with a privileged location and view: all its rooms overlook the magnificent tile panel of the Capela das Almas. It was object of remodelling works, but maintains the main features of the original architecture.

Shop History

The “Pensão do Norte” opened to the public in the 40s of the XX century, in the centre of Porto. The building was constructed at the beginning of the XX century, at a time when the “Parisian” glamour and elite were a reference for the Porto society. The proximity of some of the most famous houses of the commerce of the city (such as the “Mercearia Chinesa” or the “Café Majestic”), the Mercado do Bolhão and the train station Estação de São Bento made the Pensão do Norte very sought after by travelling businessmen and travelling salesmen. Besides the lodging, it offered its guests a restaurant service, an innovation at the time, as only the most luxurious hotels in the city had such service.
