Shop History

Founded by Alcino Rodrigues de Freitas (father of the current owner), in the aftermath of World War I, in 1920, the shop Alcino Freitas & Filho, Lda. represents a rare case of economic longevity.
The shop moved from facilities in 1927, next to a stable where the horses of fire trucks were kept and where travellers kept their horses, on Rua Adriano Pinto Basto.
In the newspaper Estrela do Minho, there was a news report about the
opening: "A new shop of hardware, paints and glasses opened in Rua
Adriano Pinto Basto, belonging to this firm, of which makes Mr. Alcino
Freitas, so of Mr. Camilo Freitas, amanuensis of the City Council. We wish
the new merchant the greatest prosperity."
Over the years, this hardware store has always held a special place in the
lives of famalicenses, retaining his connection of proximity and availability to its customers.
