The Shop

Fortunato e Antunes, Lda. is a drugstore and hardware store , selling tools, DIY accessories, plumbing, electrical devices, paints, machines, keys or window blinds . It was founded on June 29, 1931 by Fortunato and Antunes as partners. Fortunato stays ahead of the business and sells its shareholding to Mr. José Neves Camilo on February 29, 1960. In 1992, the couple Joaquim and Soledade Monsanto acquired the totality of the shares from Mr. José, following the exploration of the shop. In January 2020, due to Joaquim Monsanto’s death, his heirs, Ricardo and Vítor Monsanto, took over the store, keeping all its originality.

Shop History

Originally, part of the public area was also occupied by the current warehouse, extending to the office space. At the time, the supply of materials by customers was done through carts that entered the building to proceed to the unloading. In the 60’s of the twentieth century the establishment was remodeled, and its spatiality and furniture have lasted until today. Due to its antiquity this establishment is part of the collective memory of the citizens of the parish of Alcântara and Lisbon, therefore becoming as a geographical reference of the city. It has regular customers and suppliers. It keeps close relations with the neighborhood as part of the Alcântara Card network
