The Shop

Traditional grocery store, founded in 1917 by António Rodrigues Reis. Sausage cheese, selection of sausages, an extensive variety of nuts and caramelized in bulk, but also a good offer of regional wines and biscuits are the main proposals of one of the oldest establishments in the city. In the centre of Porto, it has an Art Nouveau inspired facade, covered with tiles with imagery referencing to the spice route. The beauty of this façade makes the building one of Porto´s main tourist attractions.

Shop History

António Reis, son of the founder, is younger than the grocery store. It opened doors as a store dedicated to the sale of teas, coffees and spices. He was born in the house that is above the Perola, where he still resides. The store has been adapting to the current growing market. As well as the specialty, the teas, coffees and spices there is also now a grocery store section containing confectionery, delicatessen and nuts. The store is almost the same as it was, small changes were made in order to meet current regulation. The building is more than 200 years old and was established before the market of Bolhão just in front. Today the founder’s grandson is also a member of the management of that historic space.

Products and Services

Various regional specialties, one being the smoked pork of the store’s cornerstones. Regional sausages and ham from farmed pigs. The roast suckling pig arrives hot and aromatic daily.
