Shop History

Established in 1943 in the Estudos Street, the Real República Rás-Teparta Association moved to its current address, in the Matemática Street 6, due to the demolitions in the Alta by order of Salazar, in the 1940s.
“RAIOS PARTAM ISTO! [DAMN IT!]” – This outburst of one of the founders when imagining a name is in the origin of the Real República Rás-Teparta designation. Originally, the association had monarchic ideals. But it was the historical figure of Ras, title of the emperor of Ethiopia, that inspired the name for each member of the república. Therefore, after the admission in the community, each Ras get a nickname, directly related with a quality or singularity of personality, chosen by the other Ras.
Like all the other Repúblicas, the festivities are never exclusive for the members. The door is always open for those visiting the house.

Products and Services

True replacement communities, alternative households from those left in hometown, the Repúblicas (communal houses for students) are more than just student or university residences, representing the traditional academic life of Coimbra, with all that this entails, from the bohemian life to the ideological aspects.
