The Shop
From one generation to the next has been passed the Casa Coração de Jesus. Having opened in the year of 1885, the establishment mirrors its journey through time. In an excellent state of preservation, the establishment flaunts a wooden balcony, galleries, an elaborate roof, stained glass windows and a magnificent wainscoting. The images, the embroidery and the vestments complete the decoration of this must see establishment.
Shop History
Joaquim Melo’s Casa Coração de Jesus opened up its doors in 1885, alongside his wife, a high quality embroiderer, with the family’s status as the establishment’s managers being preserved from generation to generation.
Initially, the business was linked with the embroideries orientated towards the church. Later on, it maintained the same type of product for 70 years. They also sell religious objects, that is, products associated with the church.
The business has always set a high bar for itself by selling top quality products, made in Portugal, many of which are of an artisan style.
The building has remained, aesthetically, practically unchanged since its opening, carrying with it more than a century of heritage and history worthy of a cultural visit.
