Casa Natal is a gourmet grocery that prides itself on the quality of the products it sells and the great diversity of products it offers, from cookies and biscuits, regional sweets, chocolates, preserves, as well as sausages from Viseu, "alheiras" (meat sausage) from Mirandela, cheese from the mountain, dried fruit in bulk, codfish, olive oil, chestnuts, and other products of mainly Portuguese origin, with emphasis on its varied wine cellar.

Shop History

Agostinho Francisco Cabral founded Casa Natal at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, precisely in 1900. According to the current owners, a flood caused the original documents of Casa Natal to disappear, which is why the first records we find refer to the 1930s, linked to the registration of the brand "Azeite Velhinho", which was marketed by Casa Natal for decades. Initially located in Rua do Bonjardim, it is, since 1971, in its current location, in Rua de Fernandes Tomás. The name of the establishment was born from its connection to the products it traditionally commercialised, such as codfish, olive oil and nuts, products that are closely linked to the Christmas season. This century-old brand has evolved and adapted to the times, not forgetting its traditional roots, and is considered, today, a gourmet grocery store, focusing on quality national products, also supplying other traditional shops in Porto.
When you enter Casa Natal you notice the care taken to preserve the decoration and atmosphere of the traditional grocery stores of the beginning of the 20th century, which can be seen in the design of the furniture and the integration of old commercial instruments and equipment, the property of the establishment, in the decoration of the space – coffee grinder, cash register, scales, clock, typewriter, jars/displays of goodies and some dozens of bottles of wines and liquors just for display are just some examples of this atmosphere of other times.
