The Shop

The Florista da Rua da Bandeira house was founded in 1957 by Joaquim Alves Oliveira, and is still known today as Florista Joaquim das Flores.

Shop History

Joaquim Oliveira was passionate about flowers, so no one was surprised that he decided to become a flower grower. When Joaquim das Flores opened his business there were no other flower shops between Braga and Melgaço. As he did not have a driving license and had many clients outside Viana do Castelo, Joaquim sent flowers by train, the easiest means of transport, even though sometimes they had to be taken or smuggled. Joaquim Oliveira’s vision led him to build a cyclamen greenhouse, which would flower for the first time, but in all its fullness, 15 days after his death.
