Shop History

This touristic establishment was inaugurated in 1932 by Fernando Guimarães, former owner of the Pensão do Bolhão. This establishment was demolished and therefore a new “Pensão” was announced known as “Antiga Pensão do Bolhão”, to guarantee that the ususal clients would continue to frequent the establishment. The building is based on the design of architect Michaelangelo Soá, dating back to 1919, integrating elements the first remodeling project of the Nova Avenida das Nações Aliadas, from 1916. The Hotel Aliados integrates the “edifício Soares da Costa” which is included in the number of buildings classified in public interest. Throughout the hotel the upkeep and integration of the original furniture is visible, maintaining references to the original decor. In this very building, various scenes from the film “A Costureirinha da Sé” by Manuel de Guimarães«, son of the founder, were filmed. It is still integrated in the narrative of literary worked and referred to in academic studies. It still contains, on its first floor, the “Café Bilharista” where one can play billiards for free, snooker and Zanzi golf.
