The Shop

Maurício Queiroz Watch Shop, located on R. D. Frei Caetano Brandão, is the oldest of its kind in the city of Braga. Just as in the early days, it is dedicated to the sale, repair and restoration of fine, medium and thick watchmaking, being a genuine school, through which generations of watchmakers have passed.
Over the years, the weather station in its façade has presented the weather forecast to all those passing in the street. Its interior is a world of clocks, small and large, wrist, pocket, wall, tower, high tower, table, chimney, all from different eras and materials, but marking the same time. In this time, when whenever something is broken you can simply throw it away and buy new, there are few places where you can get a watch fixed, Maurício Queiroz are the only ones to fix any malfunction.

Shop History

With the democratisation of the use of the watch, in 1903, José Augusto Pinto de Queiroz, a textile worker, decided to dedicate himself to watchmaking and opened his shop in Campo da Vinha. The professionalism with which he executed any watchmaking work, however difficult it was, and the seriousness with which he presided over his life as a businessman, gave José Augusto Queiroz and his shop great prestige. From 1912, he relied on one of his sons, Maurício Queiroz, teaching him all the secrets of the art and the rules of moral conduct, and he would take over the running of The Store after his father’s death in 1933.
In 1951, he formed a partnership with Paulino Ribeiro de Araújo and Vitor Augusto da Costa Lima, his collaborators and skilful watchmakers. When Maurício Queiroz died in 1973, Paulino de Araújo took over the management of the watch shop.
Mestre Paulino, as he was known, was to become a reference in the art of watchmaking, together with his four sons, together they would live through difficult times, but would never lose their place of excellence. The Relojoaria Maurício Queiroz is a school of the art of watchmaking and is currently owned by the heirs of Mestre Paulino.
