The Shop
"Ourivesaria Costa" specializes in the sale of gold and silver products, watches, trophies, and commemorative plaques for all kinds of events and awards.
Shop History
Established in 1936, the establishment has been in continuous operation to this day. It is the oldest jewelry store in the city of Coimbra, owning exclusive artistic pieces such as a blackwood and silver Christ matrix.
With strong connections to academic tradition, the store has provided generations of graduates and PhDs with class rings and luxury folders featuring the logo of the University of Coimbra Tower. For decades, they supplied the University of Coimbra with silver diploma boxes for undergraduate degrees. They were also responsible for the official silver tableware of the University of Coimbra and the medals for the celebrations of the City of Coimbra Day in various years.
The physical space of Ourivesaria Costa features traditional characteristics that are increasingly rare in the city today. Notable among them is the iron storefront with curved glass and the advertising panel in painted glass. Inside, the furniture and display cases are made of wood and share a similar design, indicating they are from the same era.
Generations of locals and students have passed through Ourivesaria, showcasing to their descendants where they bought engagement rings, rings, and other items. Often, these objects hold a familial sentimental value surpassing their economic worth, and this tradition is passed down from generation to generation.
