The Shop

Located on Rua Trindade Coelho, this store was opened in 1970, however it has many years of history dating back further than its inauguration. The son of a jeweller, Luiz Ferreira became the custodian after the death of his father, who earned a posthumous award in for the services lent by him to Portuguese culture. At present it is one of the most emblematic brands in the jewellery branch of the city of Porto.

Shop History

It is on Rua das Flores, a street rich with jewellery related excellence, where, in 1909, Luiz Ferreira was born to jewellery. In the thirties, he began his professional trajectory, working with his father David Ferreira. After the death of his father, in 1944 he formed a business with the name “David Ferreira, Sucessor & Companhia”. It was in this store on Rua das Flores in which Luiz Ferreira was able to demonstrate his creativity.
From the sixties onwards, and with an artistic personality more and more renowned, the title of the store was changed to the now more easily recognisable “David Ferreira, Suc”, this name would come to characterize his most creative phase.
In 1970, he opened his shop in Rua Trindade Coelho and was the beginning of his individual affirmation in the industry. The evocation of this year will be marked in one of several punctures of goldsmithery that used, in which its initials – "LF" – top the date of 1970. In 1984 and with 75 years, it forms the society «Luiz Ferreira & Filhos ", in which his sons Manuel, Rosário, David and Benedita Coutinho Ferreira become part of the company itself. In 1991, he decided to open a new store in the Ipanema Park Hotel, which would qualify that space. He died on May 15, 1994, in his city of Porto, but his work would not fail to be recognized. On July 19 of that year, the Secretary of State for Culture posthumously awarded him with the medal of Cultural Merit, for the relevant services rendered to Portuguese culture.
