Shop History

In the History of Kiosks of Guimarães, the currently called tabacaria Marinho, occupies a prominent place, as being the oldest of this land.
In 1913, my grandfather (Bernardino Pereira Marinho) started with a typical wooden kiosk, next to the Wall, which he named Kiosk toural.
One night (April 9, 1939) a driver, for reasons still unknown, probably related to speed, when driving down avenida D. Afonso Henriques, went against the small property leaving only wreckage.
Then, with the respective compensation was built another at the top of the Garden of Alameda de S. Dâmaso, opposite the old one with the name of Kiosk Garden.
Years later, more specifically in 1956, under Dr. Castro Ferreira, the City Council had the only kiosk in that garden demolished, without any compensation.
Still in the historical sequence, appeared Tabacaria Marinho, after my father (José Pereira Marinho) had taken a trespass store in Largo do Toural, which in 1990 was given to me (José Manuel Lopes Pereira Marinho)
In 2013, a partnership was established with the two sons (José Bernardino Marinho and Nuno Miguel Marinho), thus becoming the 4th generation.
Tabacaria Marinho currently has at his service Besides the partners, plus two employees who are the wives of the 2 brothers (Marlene Almeida and Sara Miradouro)
